Training Programme on Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing

Introduction

The programme was delivered in "Training Workshop on Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Management" which was held in Beijing 10 - 30 October 1999. There were 13 participants from 6 countries including Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Venezuela and Vietnam.

The morning session of the programme was mainly a multimedia lecture by Mr. Louis Chu, which from time to time visiting the web site of the PolyU RP Centre for on-line broadcasting of the RP machines in action. In the afternoon, the lecture room in Beijing and the PolyU IC in Hong Kong was connected through ISDN with a video conferencing system. The IC staff in Hong Kong delivered a real-time demonstration on the RT processes to the participants in Beijing.

The technology

During the morning session, the supporting staffs communicate with the presenter in Beijing through multi-points NetMeeting connection. Provided necessary assistance to the presenter such as camera pan-tilt-zoom and RP equipment control.

In the afternoon session, a presentation area was temporarily setup in our Rapid Tooling Workshop. Mr. Martin Wong and Mr. Peter Chan join Mr. Louis Chu in Beijing to deliver a cases based presentation.

The presentation was augmented by visualizer and cameras located at key locations of the Centre.
